MY INSPIRATION

My pottery is deeply rooted in the landscapes of my childhood—the rugged, windswept beaches of the Devon coast. Growing up, I spent my days among the ever-changing tides, collecting textures and colours from places like Bantham, Bigbury, and Mothercombe. These elements continue to influence my work, shaping the textures and hues I use to evoke the peacefulness and beauty of those coastal moments. Each of my pieces is designed to transport you to your favourite stretch of coastline, to a time when you felt at ease beside the water.

Before becoming a potter, I trained as a painter, which means I approach pottery in a way that may be different from most. While most potters start by thinking about form, I begin with colours and textures, drawing inspiration from my memories of the coast. This focus on colour and the way it interacts with surface texture is something I carry with me from my time as a painter. The natural palettes of Georgia O’Keeffe deeply resonate with me and continue to inspire my work. In my pottery, I see her influence reflected in the colours I choose, resulting in pieces that reflect both the dramatic and grounding qualities found in nature.

Each design is named after a moment in my life in the landscape—whether it's the soft warmth of a summer day or the serenity of calm seas. I carefully craft each piece, ensuring it has its own unique personality and soul. No two pieces are ever the same, and I believe this individuality is what gives handcrafted work its character.

My Work

Natural, calm and uncluttered.

I create all my work in my studio just outside of Bath, Somerset, I continue to draw on the inspiration of the landscape around me and by travelling extensively throughout the British Isles and further afield. Using stoneware clay, I throw each on the potter’s wheel, glaze it with care using glazes I mix myself, and fire it to a high temperature, ensuring it is both beautiful and durable. My focus is on creating pieces that feel refined yet retain the rustic charm of handmade ceramics. Whether it's a mug, teapot, or larger art piece, every item is carefully crafted to be functional yet unique.

More than just objects, my pottery is about offering a mindful experience. When you pick up a handmade mug, I hope you feel the thought and care that went into it. Drinking from a piece that’s made with love is distinct from mass-produced items. I want you to pause, appreciate the form beneath your fingers, and lose yourself in the textures and colours of the clay and glaze as you sip your tea. My work is an invitation to slow down and savour the simple joy of eating and drinking, connecting with an object born of earth, water, and fire.

My Journey

I started pottery back in 2002 as a hobby, during a time when I was working in an office job that drained my creative energy. It was then that I took a pottery class and found myself hooked. Despite thinking that pottery was a pursuit reserved for others, I finally took the plunge in 2015 and gave up my day job to follow my dream. I set up my own studio, where I now create pieces that reflect my journey and passion. This transformation is a story I share in my blog, *Shed Diaries* and with my Patreon community where I regularly delve into my decision to take the leap and embrace pottery as a full-time endeavour.
